Disseminated Coccidioidomycosis of the Knee Joint Requiring Synovectomy and Arthrotomy

Introduction: Coccidioidomycosis is a fungal infection endemic to the Southwestern United States, Mexico, and South America. While uncommon, inhalation of spores or direct cutaneous contact can lead disseminated in immunocompetent, with involvement musculoskeletal integumentary systems. Case Report: A 49-year-old patient history pulmonary coccidioidomycosis presented right knee pain multiple symptomatic abscesses beneath suprapatellar infrapatellar fat pads. Arthrocentesis culture confirmed infection, open synovectomy, arthrotomy, drainage were performed without complication. Conclusion: Disseminated an uncommon that may involve joints become refractory pharmacotherapy. Management require surgical intervention, along infectious disease consultation close follow-up. Patients from regions should be evaluated comprehensive this disease. Keywords: Coccidioidomycosis, knee, septic arthritis, orthopedic surgery, infection.
